An informal and friendly prose writing class, suitable for all levels structured around weekly writing assignments that allow you to practice different fictional techniques (also relevant to life writing). I provide writing prompts but you are welcome to work on your own project if you have one. Many of the students in this class are working on long projects like novels or autobiographies.
Work will be read aloud in class and verbal feedback given. I also given fairly detailed written feedback which will be sent to you after the class, keeping the overall project in mind. The feedback will cover all the technical aspects of writing, like plot, characterisation, voice, narrative time, point of view, etc., with explanations where necessary, and may include discussions or short writing exercises where time allows.
This is a very friendly and supportive mixed ability group. Some people are just setting out, others may have been published, had stories on radio or won competitions, while others are writing just for themselves, or because they enjoy the mental stimulation and social contact. Beginners benefit from the expertise and feedback of more experienced writers and longer-standing members enjoy the variety and fresh feedback from new members.

“The class is supportive, the atmosphere encouraging, all levels of experience are catered for. We also laugh a lot. I have gone to different writing classes and workshops over the years but feel I have gained most from this one.”
